Offering a focal length range of 200-800mm (35mm equivalent) and compatibility with the MC-20 2X teleconverter, extending the reach up to an impressive 1600mm, the OM System M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 II IS delivers unparalleled versatility for bird and wildlife photography. Its 5-axis sync IS system offers up to 7.0 steps of shutter speed compensation, ensuring crisp, steady handheld shots even at extreme magnification. Built with an IPX1-rated splash-proof performance and dust-resistant design, this lens is designed to thrive in demanding outdoor conditions, making it the ultimate tool for capturing the beauty of nature.
The advanced optics of this lens, featuring 4 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lenses, 2 Super HR (Super High Refractive index) lenses, and 2 HR (High Refractive index) lenses, deliver crisp, superior performance across the entire zoom range. Additionally, the ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating minimises ghosting and flares, ensuring clarity even in challenging backlit conditions.
With a closest focusing distance of 1.3 m and a 0.57x equivalent 2 maximum magnification (telephoto setting: minimum field size of 60.3 x 45.3 mm), the lens is outstanding for telemacro photography, ideal for capturing small, easily startled subjects like insects. It also supports focus stacking mode 5 , combining multiple images at varying focal points to create sharp, detailed images with extended depth of field, even in shallow telemacro scenarios.
This lens features compatibility with 5-axis sync IS1 , utilising a high-precision gyro sensor and an optimised image stabilisation algorithm that integrates seamlessly with in-body stabilisation. It provides up to 7.0 steps2 of shutter speed compensation2 for stable handheld shooting, even at extended zoom ranges. Advanced image stabilisation minimises camera shake and assists in framing the subject—a common challenge with handheld super telephoto photography. With 5-axis sync IS, the viewfinder remains stable, allowing photographers to keep subject in the frame with ease, enabling powerful handheld telephoto shooting.
This lens features IPX1-rated splash-proof performance and dust resistant design, offering peace of mind in challenging outdoor conditions, including rain or splash-prone environments. The front element is fluorine-coated, allowing dirt and water droplets to be easily wiped away for uninterrupted shooting.
Additionally, the lens is equipped with a Focus Limiter switch for quick autofocus adjustments based on the distance of the subject. Users can select from three AF ranges for faster, more precise focusing, especially
at super telephoto distances.
The redesigned tripod mount can be attached or detached without removing the lens from the camera, and its ergonomic foot shape is compatible with Arca-Swiss type clamps, ensuring convenience and portability.
